Two Opportunities to Save in Your GardenThe Town has made going green easier in the garden easier this summer. Take advantage of the electric leaf blower rebate and free organic compost: 1) Atherton residents can get a $250 rebate when they purchase an electric leaf blower and its associated batteries and chargers. Residents can purchase on behalf of their gardener or can purchase a set of batteries to keep at home for the equipment their gardener already has. Learn more and apply here: https://www.ci.atherton.ca.us/668/Electric-Leaf-Blower-Program. 2) Pick up free organic compost to use in your garden. The compost is made from the green bin yard waste collected by GreenWaste Recovery, the town’s solid waste service provider. The organic compost is available from the self-service pile at Holbrook Palmer Park, across from the historic water tower. Please bring your own containers, shovels, and gloves. These programs are part of the town’s efforts to reduce waste, conserve resources, and enhance the environment.

Help Us Plan for Atherton's 2024 Earth Day Celebration Earth Day is every day around here! The Environmental Programs Committee (EPC) is in the early phases of planning for 2024. This year's Love Our Earth Festival (4/22/2023) had something for each of our 1,000+ attendees: - Over 80 exhibitors including activities for kids, an expert booth to get technical advice on electrification and greywater systems, and local organizations and small businesses
- Cooking demos in Acterra's Plant-Based Market
- Dozens of models of electric vehicles and bikes
- Live music, story times, and a lizard show!
- Ways to reduce waste from a Goodwill donation drive to screen printing upcycled shirts
- Presentations from globally renowned climate and environmental scientists
What was your favorite part? If you didn't make it this year, what would inspire you to participate in 2024? Fill out our survey (linked below) to help our Environmental Programs Committee plan. Your input is incredibly valuable in helping us to create an event that is relevant, impactful, and creates meaningful climate action.

Did you know? The County of San Mateo has Boards, Commissions, and Committees that are made up of residents. Several County Boards, Commissions and Committees have vacancies and are actively recruiting new members. These bodies advise the Board of Supervisors on subjects ranging from design review, LGBTQ+, women, disabilities and art. Participation is largely voluntary; some posts but not all carry a $50 stipend. See all opportunities and apply at https://www.smcgov.org/bnc/vacancies
