Now Accepting Applications: Youth Climate Ambassador Program


Attention 9-12 Grade Students! Concerned about climate change and looking for an opportunity to do something about it? The San Mateo County Office of Education, the San Mateo County Office of Sustainability, Peninsula Clean Energy, Acterra, and the CEC Burlingame have launched a youth climate change leadership program for 9th-12th grade students who live or go to school in San Mateo County (yes, that includes Atherton!). This program is offered in a virtual setting for participants, with twice a month Thursday evening meetings on Zoom accompanied by three in person retreats on Saturdays throughout the program. Saddle Up for Atherton's Bike Rodeo

We can't wait to see you at this year's Bike Rodeo on September 30 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM! This free event provides kids of all ages with an opportunity to practice their bike skills & learn safety tips from the Atherton Police Department. We'll have activities for adults, too. Keep Our Waterways Clean this 

Coastal Cleanup Day

September 23rd is Coastal Cleanup Day, a statewide effort to keep our beautiful waterways clean! Volunteer today to help protect our environment. Sign up with San Mateo County Health to join a local clean-up or create a team: smchealth.org/ccd

Mental Health Training at the Library

On Wednesday, September 27 the Atherton Library is hosting an important training on mental health. Be sensitive and be brave when it comes to preventing suicide. Learn how to recognize mental health conditions, what to do when someone needs support and tools for maintaining good mental health, including how to: 

  • Identify someone in mental distress
  • Practice being sensitive and brave in helping others
  • ncrease awareness of mental health resources
  • Build resilience using a recipe for mental health
  • Build cultural sensitivity around mental health
  • Respond to community needs and decrease stigma

The Town's 100th birthday is September 12. In celebration, join the City Council at a Special Meeting at 6 pm in the Council Chambers. There will be cake, refreshments, and a screening of our 10 minute Atherton History video. See you there!
