See You at the Bike Rodeo this Saturday!

The Atherton Police Department will be hosting our Annual Bike Rodeo on September 30 at Menlo-Atherton High School. Obstacle courses and community tables will be open from 10 AM to 2:00 PM. A community bike ride will start at 2:00 PM. Rain or shine!

The Atherton Bike Rodeo brings the excitement of a traditional rodeo to the world of bicycling. Kids of all ages are invited to participate in the cycling obstacle course, which has been designed to sharpen the participants’ biking skills and abilities. Participants can maneuver through a series of various courses while learning the importance of remaining safe while doing so. This course will focus on control and balance on two wheels to encourage them to push themselves and be aware of safety.

The Atherton Bike Rodeo also emphasizes the importance of bike safety. The event will feature a dedicated safety zone where participants can learn bicycle safety tips and guidelines including how to properly wear a helmet and complete safety checks before riding. Local law enforcement will provide insights and lessons about biking practices and the importance of obeying traffic rules. Information booths will also be available to showcase programs to help your family get started incorporating cycling into your routines.

Bring your family, your bikes and your helmets to this fun event for all! Let’s ride! Free hotdogs, snacks, and water will be provided.

U.S. 101 Closure for Cordilleras Creek Bridge Replacement Project

Along U.S. 101 in Redwood City, between the Whipple Avenue and Brittan Avenue exits (postmile 6.7 - 7.6), spans the Cordilleras Creek Bridge. This bridge is at the end of its service life and needs to be replaced. To accomplish this work, Caltrans plans to close each side of U.S. 101 (northbound and southbound) for two weekend closures. Traffic management strategies will be implemented to keep traffic away from the area and to reroute travelers between the Holly Street and Whipple Avenue exits onto Industrial Way in Redwood City.

Residents are advised to avoid the project area and utilize alternate routes during the closures when possible. Roadway message signs will be set up throughout the Bay Area to direct both local and regional travelers away from the closure.

Southbound Closure Dates and Detour
Sept. 29-Oct. 2
Weekend full freeway closures will last from 10 p.m. Friday night (Sept. 29) to 5 a.m. Monday morning (Oct. 2).

Northbound Closure Dates and Detour
Oct.13-16
Weekend full freeway closures will last from 10 p.m. Friday night (Oct. 13) to 5 a.m. Monday morning (Oct. 16).

For more information visit the Caltrans webpage or view the project brochure.

For additional information about this project, contact the Caltrans Public Information Officer: Alejandro Lopez at Alejandro.Lopez@dot.ca.gov or call (510) 286-0319.

Did you know?

"First Flush" is the first significant rain of the season and moves pollutants that accumulate during drier months across the landscape. This makes it an especially vulnerable event to the health of our beautiful waterways. Review stormwater pollution prevention tips here to help decrease the impact of our upcoming "First Flush"!
