Dear Atherton Residents:

As your Chief of Police, I am honored to present to you the Atherton Department of Police 2023 Annual Report.  This report encapsulates our department's commitment to serving and protecting our community while maintaining transparency and accountability.

In 2023, our officers worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of every individual in our city.  Through various initiatives and partnerships, we have strived to build stronger relationships with our residents, businesses, and community organizations.

Here are some highlights from the past year:

Crime Reduction Efforts:

Implemented targeted patrol strategies to address crime hotspots and reduce incidents of theft, burglary, and vandalism.

Collaborated with local agencies and community groups to develop crime prevention programs and educational workshops aimed at reducing crime rates.

Community Engagement:

Hosted numerous community events such as National Night Out, Coffee with a Cop, and neighborhood information meetings to foster open communication and trust between law enforcement and the community.

Conducted outreach programs in schools, and throughout the Town to educate residents about crime prevention, personal safety, and emergency preparedness.

Diversity and Inclusion:

Continued our commitment to diversity and inclusion within the department through recruitment efforts, cultural competency training, and outreach.

Technology and Innovation:

Expanded the use of technology to enhance our law enforcement capabilities, including the implementation of body-worn cameras, automated license plate recognition systems, an autonomous drone program, and crime analysis software.

Utilized social media platforms to disseminate information, engage with the community, and solicit feedback on departmental initiatives and services.

Professional Development:

Invested in the training and development of our officers to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively serve our community.

Provided ongoing mental health support and wellness resources to prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of our personnel.

Despite the challenges we faced in 2023, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and increased social tensions, our department remained steadfast in our commitment to public safety and community service. None of our accomplishments would have been possible without the unwavering support of our residents, city leaders, and dedicated law enforcement professionals.

As we look ahead to the future, we are committed to building upon the successes of the past year and continuing to evolve as a department to meet the ever-changing needs of our community. Together, we can create a safer, stronger, and more inclusive Atherton.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Sincerely,

Steven D McCulley

Chief of Police
