Subject: Back to School Safety & E-Bike Safety Guidelines
Dear Atherton Residents,
As the new school year begins, it's essential for us all to prioritize safety—both on the road and in our community. Please take a moment to review the following guidelines to ensure a safe environment for everyone:
Back to School Safety
- Drive Carefully: Be extra cautious near school zones. Obey all speed limits and watch for children crossing the streets, especially during drop-off and pick-up times.
- Pedestrian Awareness: Parents, please remind your children to use crosswalks and to look both ways before crossing the street. Walk with them if necessary to ensure they follow safe practices.
- School Bus Safety: Always stop for school buses that are loading or unloading children. Remember, passing a stopped school bus is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous.
E-Bike Safety
- Wear a Helmet: Helmets are essential for protecting yourself while riding an e-bike. Make sure it fits properly and meets safety standards.
- Follow Traffic Rules: E-bikes should be operated like any other vehicle on the road. Obey traffic signals, stop signs, and lane markings. Refer to the attached E-Bike safety guidance and laws.
- Be Visible: Use lights and wear reflective gear to ensure you're visible to others, especially during early morning or evening rides.
- Speed Control: Maintain a safe speed, particularly in residential areas or where children are present. Always be prepared to stop quickly if necessary.
Let's work together to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all, especially as our children head back to school. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to safety.
Best regards,
Steven D McCulley
