Message from the Chief of Police
Holiday Season is also Burglary Season
Dear Residents,
This morning our officers responded to a report of a residential burglary on Frederick Avenue in Lindenwood. At this time, it is unknown when the burglary occurred or what may have been stolen. It is very important to note that the MO of this burglary is the very same as the vast majority of recent and past burglaries: rear window smash in to the master bedroom, with valuables taken that were kept in the master bedroom unsecured.
As the holiday season approaches, we want to remind you of an unfortunate trend we’ve seen in past years—an increase in residential burglaries during this time. While this is a time of joy and celebration, it is also a time when homes can become targets for criminals.
To help protect your property and ensure your peace of mind, we encourage you to take the following precautions:
Secure Your Home
Keep valuables out of your master bedroom and adjoining bedrooms.
If you use a safe, do not keep it in the master bedroom.
Lock all doors and windows, even when you're home.
Use deadbolt locks and consider installing a security system.
Keep Your Home Well-Lit
Use outdoor lighting with motion sensors.
Utilize timers for indoor lights to give the appearance of someone being home.
Be Cautious with Deliveries and Packages
Avoid leaving packages visible on your porch.
Request delivery services to leave items in secure locations.
Stay Vigilant
Report suspicious activity in your neighborhood immediately by calling 650-688-6500. In emergencies, always call 911.
Be cautious about sharing your holiday travel plans publicly, especially on social media.
Partner with Your Neighbors
Participate in the Atherton Resident Volunteer Patrol program. For information on this program designed to deter crime, call our Dispatch Center at 650-688-6500.
Let trusted neighbors know if you’ll be away and ask them to keep an eye on your property.
Our department is increasing patrols in residential areas to deter criminal activity and provide you with added peace of mind. However, your involvement and vigilance are vital in keeping our community safe.
Thank you for working with us to ensure a safe and joyous holiday season for everyone.
Sincerely,
Steven D McCulley
Chief of Police
