Dear Community,
As the new school year begins, the Atherton Police Department reminds all residents and motorists to be extra cautious on our roadways. Please observe the new 15 mph speed limits in school zones during school hours. These reduced speeds are vital to protecting our children as they travel to and from school.
Parents, please take time to remind your children about bike and pedestrian safety, including always wearing a helmet when riding, and when walking, to face oncoming traffic so they can see approaching vehicles.
As part of our Back-to-School Safety Enforcement Emphasis, the Atherton Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Division will be working in partnership with the Menlo Park Police Department’s Traffic Division to conduct a joint E-bike/Pedestrian Safety and Motorists Passing in the Bike Lane Education and Enforcement Campaign. Our goal is to ensure that everyone—whether on foot, on two wheels, or behind the wheel—can share the road safely.
Thank you for helping us keep Atherton’s streets safe for all.
Steven D McCulley
Chief of Police
Atherton Police Department
