[ARCHIVED] Resident Volunteer Program

APD Logo

April 4, 2024

Dear Atherton Residents:

Our current Resident Volunteer Program (RVP) was established two years ago in an effort to help deter burglaries and other crimes in Atherton.   Our RVP is now 41 members strong, and in the last 12 months they conducted 1,606 walking patrols with 2,588 hours of walking patrol time.

In our ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and strengthen our partnership with the community, we are inviting interested residents to join us in making a positive impact right here in our neighborhoods.  The RVP offers an opportunity for community members to actively contribute to the safety and well-being of our city.

As valued members of our community, we recognize that you have a vested interest in maintaining the security and vitality of our neighborhoods.  By becoming a part of our RVP, you will have the chance to work alongside our officers, serving as additional eyes and ears on the ground.

Here are just a few ways in which our volunteers will make a difference:

  • Conducting patrols in neighborhoods, parks, and commercial areas to deter crime and ensure public safety.
  • Observing and reporting suspicious activities, hazards, or concerns to law enforcement.
  • Engaging with residents and promoting crime prevention awareness within the community.
  • Assisting with traffic control and special events as needed.

Our RVP volunteers will receive comprehensive training, ongoing support, and the necessary resources to fulfill their roles effectively.  Whether you have prior experience in law enforcement or are simply passionate about making a difference, we welcome individuals from all backgrounds to join our program.

We believe that through collaboration and community engagement, we can create a safer and more vibrant town for everyone.  Your involvement in the RVP is a testament to your commitment to our community, and we are grateful for your willingness to serve.

If you are interested in learning more about the program or would like to sign up as a volunteer, please contact our RVP coordinator, Sergeant John Fong at 650-688-6500 or at JFong@ci.atherton.ca.us.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our fellow residents and build a stronger, safer community for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Steven D McCulley

Chief of Police
