[ARCHIVED] Fire in Redwood City

Earlier today, an eight-alarm fire broke out in a commercial building that is under construction in Redwood City area.

Firefighters have responded to the burning structure located on the 2700 block of Middlefield Road.  Evacuations were ordered for those between Pacific Avenue and Calvin Avenue, according to officials.  Evacuation orders were also extended to include residents living on Dumbarton Ave.

According to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, the fire started on the fifth floor of the building and no injuries have been reported.

Caltrain service has also been suspended in Redwood City, officials said.

Due to high winds, Atherton residents may experience embers or debris from the fire in Redwood City, so please be cautious and observant at your property.
